PFPP 25 Year Master Plan

Palmer Park 25 Year
Master Plan

The following 25 Year Master Plan has been adopted by People for Palmer Park and is a guide for the growth and sustainability projections for Palmer Park. These improvements and changes will help to ensure that the Park will become self-sustaining, protected, and a treasure to be enjoyed by all for generations to come.

Palmer Park is the largest Virgin Forest (also termed primary forest, primeval forest, late seral forest, ancient woodland) in the Tri-County area, and one of only seven in the City of Detroit. In Palmer Park, there is a true Oak-Beech Climax forest with some of the Oaks exceeding 350 years in age — planted by Mother Nature herself.

Our efforts in planting, reforesting and caring for the park are aligned with Steiner’s Bio-Dynamic farming method.  This is one of the 7 keys to our plan.  Steiner’s Bio-Dynamic approach is a worldwide organic farming system of which 90% of all farms in Australia are in use/compliance. Read more.

Some of the goals described have been funded and accomplished and there are pledges to fund some of the goals. As the plan progresses, funds from new park resources, such as orchards and gardens, will fund future plans. All of the plans described can be accomplished at a sooner date if funds can be pledged sooner.

The Time Line below is part of the Self-Sustainable Park Model, which is the first work of its kind to be published in this country. It is a virtual treatise on the subject of sustainability and the only known design where the green spaces will actually pay for all of the required hard scape/spaces improvements.

If you wish to support this plan, either as projected below, or to fund a specific goal, please contact People for Palmer Park (info@peopleforpalmerpark.org). For more information or details about this plan, contact James A. Meyers, Historical Courtyards and Gardens (jimmeyers3.14@gmail.com)
