Winter in the Park
Winter Solstice Holiday Caroling &
Bonfire Celebration 2012
Friday, Dec. 21, 6 pm
We bundled up and asked everyone to bring their voice, a festive spirit, and a plate of holiday cookies to share for our annual CELEBRATION OF WINTER SOLSTICE AND GOOD WILL.
We provided song books with festive songs from various traditions. We also had a special candle lighting vigil prayer led by the Ladies of Oak Drive for peace, nonviolence and for the Sandy Hook Elementary School families — and for children everywhere.
Our request for new winter mittens, gloves, scarves, or hats to donate to those in need was met this great generosity. We donated them to the Detroit Unity Temple for their collection that was given to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.
Carolers followed the candle-lit path near the pool parking lot at Merrill Plaisance and Pontchartrain, and walked through the woods to the bonfire circle. We will caroled under the stars and full moon, around a bright, warm bonfire! Flashlights added more light, but the community of friends and the bonfire helped warm the chill from a very cold evening.
